Ambient occlusion – wait, ambient what?

One of the major new features in our most recent update has to do with lighting in Twinity. It’s called ambient occlusion, and it’s basically an improvement to the shadows and lighting in Twinity. There’s more technical information behind that, but we’ll leave that alone for now. 😉

Unfortunately, it comes with a downside – decreased performance. So, while we’re ironing out the kinks with it (remember: ‘beta’), we’ve disabled it by default. But we know that there’s rumors about it, and that many Twinizens are anxious to check it out.

So, if you want to enable ambient occlusion, here are the steps.

  1. Start Twinity
  2. Click System in the upper right-hand corner of Twinity. Note that if you have the toolbar turned off, you’ll need to press F4 on your keyboard to make the System option appear again.
  3. Click Display
  4. Look for the checkbox labeled ‘Ambient Occlusion’. It’ll be the 4th item down in that list of display options.
  5. Check the box.
  6. Click Done

It’s probably best to try this out only if you have a powerful graphics card. If you try it, let us know what you think by sending us feedback. Enjoy, and lurk in the shadows at will!
