Ambient occlusion – wait, ambient what?

One of the major new features in our most recent update has to do with lighting in Twinity. It’s called ambient occlusion, and it’s basically an improvement to the shadows and lighting in Twinity. There’s more technical information behind that, but we’ll leave that alone for now. ;-) Read the rest of this entry »

Avatar of the Day: St. Patrick’s Skaters

Today we got captivated by the fine style of St. Patrick’s Skaters! We find them all green in the middle of Savignyplatz, a new area of Berlin that is opening this Thursday.

If you would like to get the coolest skateboard ever, have a look in the Red Hip Berlin in virtual Neue Schönhauser Straße 15 :)

Press Release: Virtual Berlin Expands!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Virtual Berlin Expands!

Metaversum, developer of Twinity, the virtual world based on real people and real cities, is adding famous Kurfürstendamm and Gedächtniskirche (Memorial Church) to Virtual Berlin on March 18th. To mark this occasion, members will be greeted with lots of events and new launches.

Twinity_PotsdamerPlatz_Skate_blog

Berlin, 17th March 2010 – After successfully launching downtown Berlin, Singapore and London, the mirror world Twinity is returning home, to open up new areas in the western part of Berlin, with the Kurfürstendamm as its centre.

From 18th March onwards Twinizens around the world are able to explore Virtual Berlin from the famous Ku’damm in the west to Prenzlauer Berg in the east.

To mark this launch, there will be a grand opening party in front of the historic Gedächtniskirche with Berlin electric duo, Klartraum, performing live at the venue! For a taste of the city’s history, the Virtual Wall Museum, will also have more guided events and tours. But that’s not all; Twinity will also be holding some new competitions, opening some brand new stores and releasing some never seen before items. A list of all the events is available on the Twinity events calendar.

What really makes a city come alive are its people. Twinity offers to give all members a hand with sprouting their roots in the newest areas of Virtual Berlin: be it a new home in the residential area at Savignyplatz or the start of a new business. Members interested in getting new apartments, can find all the details at the Twinity Market place. Parties interested to get more information how to pick up a grand store in the Ku’damm area and become a ‘Commercial Partner’ can write to partner@twinity.com.

Twinity celebrates the launch with a special offer: 5 entrepreneurs or residents based in and around the newly launched areas can win their virtual office, store or apartment at the same address in Virtual Berlin! Real residents should just send their name and real address to berlin@twinity.com.

Over the next few months, Twinity will continue to add more buildings, features and options to all its global cities. There might be a whole new global city, coming soon to Twinity, as well! All further updates and news will be available on the Twinity blog.

The virtual world Twinity is currently in public beta. Register for free membership at www.twinity.com and start exploring the world today!

From Koinup: Twinity welcomes Therians, expanded Berlin and more

Here’s the pointer to the post over at Koinup. We over here at Metaversum have put in a lot of effort in welcoming our new members, former Therians or not. I’m glad to see that someone noticed :-)

Metaversum has extended a warm welcome to these new users, by creating a special welcome package for Therians. Metaversums’ Jeremy also stepped in, by writing an honest, open blog entry discussing some of the cited reasons for There’s demise and how Metaversum deals with those issues. He also engages Twinizens (old and new alike) by soliciting specific user feedback, but so far he hasn’t gotten much, which is a bit of a shame. If you have anything to say to Jeremy, please go post your thoughts.

Yes, it really would be great to get more feedback there. Please comment everyone!

And, I want to make sure to highlight the pictures posted on Koinup. Granted, I’m biased, but I do think the Pergamon Museum is very well done.
